My Very Simple Pleasures

As I woke up this morning, the thought crossed my mind ''If only I had a very financially independent husband ...''. And so my morning devotion began, ''Dear God...''.

Ok, I seem to be digressing from our topic about the simple pleasures in my life. Yeah, right!
But seriously, what could be more pleasurable than living life knowing money isn't an issue. Okay, since we know I'm not a shopaholic or a gambler, neither do I drink, smoke, nor club, what could I possibly indulge myself in without being passed off as a spendthrift, golddigger, or just plain lazy.

Cooking
Did I just hear someone say ''before nko?''. I love to cook, and I love everything about food - the crockery, cutlery, you name it. Being in a kitchen ware store is like being in Kitchen heaven. My favourite channels ie Food Network.

If money wasn't an issue, I'd have a 'come chop' every month for my closest friends, family, or work colleaugues (hmmm, did you think that I wouldn't work just because there was so much money? Pleeeease!).

Ah! yes, I no lazy o, so ofcourse I'd have a 5 star restaurant on the side, making me and my 'Bobo' even more financially independent.(I take the virtous wife thing very seriously, lol!) Let's not forget my catering school, cause I love to share my passions.

Writing
Na wa o! So you thought I couldn't write, then what's all this about? Well I love to write, and currently I'm working on something big but a little capital intensive, so I have it on hold for now. What! I should spill the beans, no way, you wan thief my idea? Just know that it's the next big thing since sliced bread.

So celebrate my writing pleasure by visiting my other blog:
www.thequietwaters.blogspot.com

Reading
We all know you can't be a writer without being an avid reader. Some people shop for clothes, some for shoes, others' bags, well I buy books. I see books and I go 'gaga!'. I love books! I love to read! I remember the days of Enid Blyton, Emily and Charlotte Bronte, Jonathan Swift, Mcmillan pacesetters etc. Now I'm all for Francine Rivers, Ted Decker, Elizabeth George, John C Maxwell, Tunde Adelaja etc. Hmmm, my bookshelf be spilling. With enough funds, I'd build a library - for private and public use.

Travelling
Paris, London, Istanbul, Barbados, Seychelles, Melbourne, Venice, or just a weekend in Tinapa etc. Chei! If there was ...., you know na! I for don turn 'Ajala Traveller'.

By now you are probably wondering if this 'gal' will have time for her home. Ah! The travelling na for 'Bobo' sake o. After working hard, we'll go away together, just the two of us - alone somewhere, sans laptops, sans ipads, sans blackberrys, sans kids - just sun, beach, sand, stars at night, champaign and strawberries (ok I think you catch my drift). But ofcourse, later, it's summer and smiles for the kids.

..... And so I ended up just praying in the spirit, and asked God to keep my desires in line with his will for me. I'd much rather have his blessings that make rich with no added sorrow.

So what are those simple things in your life that give you pleasure? Share with us, and encourage someone to take theirs to another level.

PS: This article is dedicated to Bridget Oyefeso-Odusami, a woman of virtue who, without even knowing it has been a friend, sister, mentor and blessing by sharing her simple pleasure (reaching the world through God's word weekly) with others.

Celebrating Nigerian Dishes

Cooking does not have to be a chore, as some of us seem to think. It can be (and is for me) loads of fun. My mission, vision, and purpose today is to celebrate life with you, and those simple things - such as cooking, and of course, eating - that can give you absolute pleasure.

This coming month (June), Simple Pleasures is all about celebrating our very own indigenous dishes. Yes, we are celebrating Nigerian dishes.
So what's your favourite? Mine is Ekpang Nkukwo, from the cross Riverine part of Nigeria. Made with both wateryam and cocoyam, the dish is known as a delicacy.

Why not tell us your favourite nigeria dish and what makes it special for you, that is, what pleasure you derive from eating it. We'll feature the most popular dish, and include recipe, as well as actual market prices of items/ingredients. We want you to try it out at home, tell us your experience while cooking and the end result.

Let's just have fun, cooking, sharing, laughing .... it's all about life, it's all about you.

xoxo,
Kela
